Quotable Sunday #2

I LOVE quotations. I write them down as I read a book or magazine. I have little bits and pieces of quotations all over the place. Here are a couple for this week. They range from Eleanor Roosevelt to Winton Churchill to Victor Hugo to "Author Unknown". Hope these quotes inspire you and touch as they did for me.

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

-Eleanor Roosevelt

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget me nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts--not on marble.

-Charles Spurgeon

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

-Author Unknown

By swallowing evil words unsaid, no one has ever harmed his stomach.

-Winston Churchill

Be like the bird that,

pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight,

feels them give way beneath her,

and yet sings,

knowing that she hath wings.

-Victor Hugo

Photobucket

Thanks TO EVERYONE who participated in last week's poll :) I am just beginning to dip my foot in the blogging pool and you have all made me feel VERY welcome!! According to the results, the great majority of us would spend the extra hour READING (Sleeping and blogging were tied for second place.)

Okay...here is today's question:
Valentine's Day is tomorrow and I want to know about LOVE!! Charlie Brown had the Little Red Haired Girl...Who was your secret crush growing up?

Wordless Wednesday Our Lady of Lourdes

I realize this is supposed to be "Wordless Wednesday" but I thought that this picture really deserved an explanation.

February 11th is Our Lady of Lourdes day. This picture (courtesy of Flickr) is taken in Lourdes and is taken at one of the basicilas. Do you see St. Bernadette kneeling right in front of the image of Our Lady of Lourdes? Isn't that pretty awesome?? A couple of things about this statue. One is that this is a pose taken directly from one of her sessions with Our Lady and the other is that St. Bernadette absolutely hated this statue. She was extremely shy and very humble.

For more on Lourdes, including how to place an "online petition" in the grotto, you can click here or check my website for more info.

Quotable Sunday-Get Inspired

There is comfort in the fact that God can never be taken by surprise.
-Gabelein

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.
-Helen Keller

The supreme happiness of life is the conviction of being loved for yourself, or, more correctly, being loved in spite of yourself.
-Victor Hugo

What do Plato Helen Keller and George Washington have in Common?

Q:What do Plato, Helen Keller, and George Washington have in common??

A: Sounds like a joke right?? Well, right now, they are contributing a great quote to my February 2009 quotes page. I try (keyword here is TRY to update it monthly so check it out and also take a look at the archives if you are a quotation lover as I am!!)

Also, it is almost FAT Tuesday...so you know what that means, right...Lent is right around the corner.

If you haven't already done so, take my poll at my site. Who is your favorite Saint? St. Therese or Saint Bernadette? St. Jude? None of the Above? Make Your Choice and see the Results.

That's it for now. As always, smile at a stranger. Be kind to one another. Be the change you want to see in the world!!

Until next time...

Gentle hugs,
Shelley

Thanks Divalicious Designs for my NEW LOOK :)

Do you like my new look?? A big THANK you goes to Divalicious Designs (especially to Candice) who had a contest for a blog template. I won the contest and this is the end result. Isn't it just the cutest?? I just LOVE it. Divalicious Designs has lots of great designs and if your budget doesn't allow for anything extra right now because of the economy (there is a link on her site for her freebie templates which are also pretty cool!)

Candice went FAR and beyond what was necessary to help me (LOL). She always answered my emails promptly and never made me feel like my questions were stupid (and believe me--I had MANY!) If you are looking for a new blog makeover, I heartily recommend, Divalicious Designs.

On another note, if you have time, stop by my website, and take my NEW poll,

http://catholicgirl.faithweb.com/ (Poll is on the "Fun" page

Who is YOUR favorite Saint?

I am going to try and update these polls more frequently. Also, the last poll was how frequently do you read the bible and I forgot to archive the results, but the majority of the people polled read the bible at least once a week or more. (I PROMISE to actually have the poll results from now on--LOL!!)

Anyway, thanks again, to Candice and Divalicious Designs for my AWESOME blog. It makes me smile each time I look at it and I hope that "you all" like it too!!

Until next time,

Shelley

Cancer Awareness Earring Giveaway

Nana's Box is a wonderful site that gives wonderful photo boxes free of charge to those undergoing cancer treatment. This is TRULY a wonderful site. Right now she is also teaming up to bring awareness to ovarian cancer.

Dream Beadery donates a portion from all of her sales to cancer research and awareness. Ovarian cancer is the fourth or fifth most common cancer killer of women. It is diagnosed in more than 25,000 women in the United States each year, and approximately 16,000 women die of the disease annually.
